Overseas work
Allen + Clarke regularly undertakes international development assistance projects in the Pacific and Asia and we also work further afield in countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. We help with projects aimed at improving the social and economic conditions in developing countries. Areas to date have included professional regulation, strategic planning, capability building, emergency preparedness (including pandemic planning), health sector legislative reform and agency and programme reviews and evaluation.
A fundamental part of our approach is to work collaboratively with people, partners, and organisations in-country along with external funding agencies such as the World Health Organization, the New Zealand Aid programme and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community.
Multi-country Pacific project, 2003 – 2007
Over 2003 to 2007, the New Zealand Agency for International Development funded a project providing support to six Pacific Island countries to develop and implement comprehensive tobacco control programmes in line with those countries’ obligations under the recently ratified WHO Framework.
Allen + Clarke assisted SPARC and the Samoan Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MESC) to design and implement a three year international development project aimed at strengthening Samoa’s sports sector and building capacity and capability.
The Ministry of Health and Human Services (MHHS) in the Cayman Islands contracted Allen + Clarke to review the Cayman Island’s public health sector.
Health Professional Regulation in Africa
The Commonwealth Secretariat contracted Allen + Clarke to work with five countries in Eastern and Southern Africa to review their systems for regulating health professionals and to provide advice on means to strengthen such systems.
